Who Are Consumers?
Consumers are anyone who consumes goods and services from the market, for his own or his family’s consumption. This means everybody is a consumer. Producers are also consumers because they too consume goods and services.
The Rights Of The Consumer:
- The Right To Basic Needs
The right to basic needs means the right to all the goods and services that are needed in our daily life including enough food, clothing, house, health and education. - The Right To Safety
The consumers have the right to be protected from goods, services and manufacturing processes that might expose their health and life to danger. - The Right To Be Informed
The right to be informed means that the consumers have the right to obtain accurate and precise facts about the goods and services that they want to consume in order for them to make the right choice. The consumers need to be equipped with enough information so that they can act in a wise and responsible way. - The Right To Choose
The consumers are entitled to have freedom in buying or assuring that the goods and services that they need are obtained through the right channels, based on the right price. In the case of monopoly, the consumers need to obtain guarantee over the quality of the goods and services at a reasonable price. - The Right To Be Heard
This means the right to advocate consumers’ interest with a view to their receiving full and sympathetic consideration in the formulation and execution of economic and other policies. - The Right Of Redress
The right of redress means the consumers have the right to a fair settlement of just claims. - The Right For Consumer Education
The consumers have the right to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to be an informed consumers. - The Right To A Healthy Environment
This means the right to a physical environment that will enchance the quality of life
